The Icom IC-SAT100 is a world first in radio communications. Using the Iridium® satellite network, this satellite PTT device can be used as a communication tool in remote areas where there are no mobile connection or network infrastructure.
Unlike satellite phones, the IC-SAT100 works the same way as a two-way radio allowing you to communicate with staff anywhere in the world with a push of a button.
What is the Iridium® network?
The Iridium® satellite network consists of crosslinked mesh architecture of 66 satellites creating a web of coverage encompassing 100% of the planet from Low-Earth Orbit. Situated only 780 kilometres from Earth, Iridium® allows pole-to-pole communication with stronger signals than ever before.
However, Iridium® doesn’t just stop there. They have a global ground-based infrastructure to ensure high reliability of communications, as well as to provide back-up systems for all critical functions.

How can this translate to daily use?
The Iridium® network ensures that no matter where you are in the world, you are always in range. From the Amazon jungle to the Sahara desert, New York City to a remote village in Malaysia – never before has instant communication globally been possible.

The Iridium® satellite network covers the entire earth, including both poles, and can provide global communications anywhere on the planet*.

Using 66 Low Earth Orbit (LEO) Iridium® satellites, the IC-SAT100 provides low-latency communication, and broader, more reliable network coverage, compared to Geosynchronous Equatorial Orbit (GEO) satellites. Emergency Call Function
You can transmit an emergency call via a specific talk group by pushing and holding down the button, just like a PMR/LMR radio system. Waterproof, Dust-Tight & Durable Body
The IC-SAT100 provides IP67 waterproofing (1 m depth of water for 30 minutes) and dust-tight protection, making it ideal for use in harsh outdoor environments. The operating temperature range is from -30°C to +60°C (-22 °F to 140 °F). 1500 mW Powerful Audio
1500 mW audio delivered from the internal speaker provides loud and clear communication, even in noisy environments. Long Lasting Battery Life
The supplied BP-300 Li-ion battery pack provides 14.5 hours of operation.

The Icom IC-SAT100 provides secure conversations globally with AES encryption as well as built-in Bluetooth® and GPS receiver. Another useful feature is AquaQuake™ which clears any water that may penetrate the speaker grill of the unit to allow clear communications.
No matter where you are in the world, the IC-SAT100 gives you private, instant and clear communication at all times. Please note, in some countries satellite communications are banned or restricted. Before travel, please check with the country you are travelling to.

Like any radio communication device, the IC-SAT100 does have it’s limitations – but in this case, there aren’t many. To achieve optimal coverage from the satellite PTT device, make sure you are in an open area with no large obstacles that can block the signal. Your body can also block signal, so make sure to hook the radio on your shoulder and not on your waist.
There are also communication fees applicable. These are typically charged at a flat rate through a monthly plan, and there are no additional call charges.*
