A smart city is a place where the traditional networks and services are made more efficient with the use of digital and telecommunication technologies, for the benefit of its inhabitants and businesses. With this vision in mind, the European Union is investing in ICT research and innovation and developing policies to improve the quality of life of citizens and make cities more sustainable in view of Europe’s 20-20-20 targets.
The smart city concept goes beyond the use of ICT for better resource use and less emissions. It means smarter urban transport networks, upgraded water supply and waste disposal facilities, and more efficient ways to light and heat buildings.
Smart Cities 2017 is a two day event featuring a full conference programme accompanied by a leading exhibition of some of the leading technological innovative companies in the UK, as well as an awards ceremony to recognise and celebrate the use and application of technology and innovation by cities in the UK.
The first day of the conference of this innovative and successful event will focus on “secure cities” exploring physical and cyber security issues faced by modern cities in the UK. Whilst day 2 will focus on the implementation and application of innovation in the urban environment.
Based on the feedback and success of Smart Cities 2016, Smart Cities 2017 is going to be an event not to be missed.
