Smye-Rumsby Limited has been working with Mick Hamaida’s company for the supply of two-way radios for the past 18 months. When Mick approached Smye-Rumsby to ask them to become involved in this project they were happy to give their support.

Many of the staff at Smye-Rumsby currently give up their spare time to help youth organisations outside of working hours.

Managing director, Philip Smye-Rumsby, has been involved with scouting for the last 20+ years, Chris Brown holds the role of Akela for a local Cub Scout pack, and Mike Syrett is involved with both football and boxing coaching for numerous young people in the South East.

Smye-Rumsby as a invests in young people in all aspects of the company, and they are currently running an apprentice program for trainee engineers.

ANCUK Logo_thumb_thumbFMick is the Moroccan team principal manager of the UK African Cup Youth Team.

Mick and eight other coaches will manage and coach both the Youth and Open age groups; through the local communities they promote and offer every individual a chance to take part in the open trials throughout April and May 2015. This is done through training sessions held twice a week with 60-70 players attending each time, with the final aim of selecting 2 squads to represent Morocco in The African Nations Cup UK.

The African Nations Cup UK, usually referred to simply as the UK African Cup, is an annual football competition contested by both the youth and men’s open age national teams from different members of United Kingdom African communities. African Nations Cup UK is a not for profit community organisation and is the first of its kind to take place in Europe, a record total of 1033 players took part in the 2014 competition!

The tournament began in 2009 with its vision is to empower various communities to unite for good causes through sports and to promote this ethos forever. We are part of this long term programme and will always encourage participation and support grass roots football with the dream of all communities working together for a fairer opportunity for all.

The event attracts football fans from all over the country, including local health and advocacy bodies and scouts from professional sports bodies and clubs to spot potential footballers for greener pastures. The current format of the tournament involves 20 Countries: Burundi, Cameroon, DR Congo, Ethiopia, Ghana, Guinea Bissau, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Morocco, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Zanzibar and Zimbabwe.

The tournament runs through a few weekends and this year commences on the 30th May 2015 with the finals held on the 14th June 2015.
