When the Queen mother was installed in Dover as the Lord Warden of the Cinque Ports in 1979, the ceremony was held as usual in the grounds of Dover Priory (Dover College). Later in the day a banquet was held in The Maison Dieu/Townhall. Smye-Rumsby provided all the public address facilities at the grounds including those in the banqueting hall. We had to ‘mike up’ the Queen Mother by arranging a microphone hidden in the great bowl of flowers immediately in front of her dining place.
